History

The Urban Development Committee of the Republic of Armenia is a republican body of executive power. The Committee develops and implements the policy of the Government of the Republic of Armenia in the field of urban development.

  • 1954

    Since May 29, 1954, the Urban Development Committee of the Republic of Armenia has begun its activity as the Ministry of Housing and Civil Construction of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia.

    The Ministers from 15.06.1954 to 10.08.1954, from 04.06.1957 to 15.09.1961- Mtatsakan Sarukhanyan,

    In the same year (August 12, 1954) it was reorganized into the Ministry of Urban and Rural Construction of the USSR.

  • 1957

    In 1957 (07.06.1957) it was renamed as the Ministry of Construction of the USSR.

  • 1967

    In 1967 (October 21, 1967) it was renamed as the Ministry of Industrial Construction of the Armenian SSR, which was headed by Mnatsakan Sarukhanyan until September 9, 1961, 

    from 15.09.1961 to 14.10.1965 – by Konstantin Marutyan,

    from 14.10.1965 to 21.10.1967-16.11.1973 – by Sergey Shahnazaryan,

    from 16.11.1973 to 26.01.1979 by Karlen Hakobyan,

    from 26.01.1979 to 19.12.1985 – by Eduard Avagyan,

    from 19.12.1985-09.10.1986 by Robert Melikyan

  • 1986

    In 1986 (09.10.1986) it was renamed as the Ministry of Construction of the USSR and headed by Robert Melikyan from 09.10.1986 to 15.08.1988.

  • 1988

    In 1988 (August 15, 1988) the Ministry of Construction of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia was dissolved by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR, and the State Construction Committee of the USSR was established (August 15, 1988) which

    from 15.08.1988 to 27.09.1989 was headed by Vardges Artsruni

    from 27.09.1989 to 18.09.1990 by Hrayr Hovhannisyan

  • 1990

    In 1990 (September 18, 1990) the State Construction Committee of the Armenian SSR was reorganized and renamed the Ministry of Construction which from 18.09.1990 to 17.06.1993 was headed by Gagik Martirosyan

  • 1995

    In 25.07.1995 it was renamed as the Ministry of Urban Development of the Republic of Armenia, which from 13.09.1993 to 15.06.1999 was headed by Felix Pirumyan, from 15.06.1999 to 28.02.2000 by Hrayr Hovhannisyan

  • 2000

    In 2000 (February 28, 2000) the Ministry was reorganized into the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Urban Development’s activity coordination and headed by Leonid Hakobyan, and later by Hovik Abrahamyan. 

  • 2001

    In 2001 (January 8, 2001) the Ministry was reorganized and renamed as the Ministry of Urban Development of the Republic of Armenia.

    from 11.06.2003 to 10.04.2004 Ara Aramyan,

    from 08.06.2004 to 08.06.2007 Aram Harutyunyan,

    from 08.06.2007 to 16.06.2012 Vardan Vardanyan,

    from 06.06.2012 to 23.04.2014 Samvel Tadevosyan,

    from 23.04.2014 to 08.10.2016 Narek Sargsyan.

  • 2016

    In 2016 (October 8, 2016), by the decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry was reorganized into the State Urban Development Committee acting under the Government of the Republic of Armenia, from 08.10.2016 to 08.06.2018 the Urban Development Committee was headed by the chairman of the Committee-Narek Sargsyan

  • 2018

    Since April 9, 2018, the Committee has been considered as a body subordinate to the Government of the Republic of Armenia and renamed as the Urban Development Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
